Do I need an account to use Matrix Method?

Yes, you’ll need to log in to your console with an xID or on-console local account to save progress in Matrix Method. You can have up to four different xID or on-console local accounts using the Matrix Method platform. Guest accounts will NOT save progress.

How does the algorithm work?

Matrix Method will continuously monitor your performance and adjust based on how you’re doing. This means that when a user increases their speed for two consecutive workouts, the zones will automatically adjust to become more challenging. Conversely, if a user decreases their speed for two consecutive workouts, the zones will become easier.

For example, if your zone four-speed is set to 5.3 mph and you adjust it up to 5.5 mph for two consecutive workouts, after the second workout your zones will adjust for this pace improvement. These adjustments made by the algorithm apply to ALL zones, not just the zone speed the user changed. It’s also important to note that adjusting your zone one, which is dedicated to warmups and cooldowns, will NOT impact your other zones.

I didn't set my goal time in the initial pop-up; how can I set it now?

When Week 1, Workout 1 becomes available, you will see a pop-up asking if you have a goal 5K time. If you choose the Later option, you can set your goal at a later time. To do this, either go to the Program Summary screen and select Goal 5K Time, or click the gear icon in the top right corner of the Journey screen and choose Goal Settings.

How can I preview an upcoming workout?

If you want to preview an upcoming workout, just tap on the workout. You’ll see details such as total (active) time, total distance, mile pace, 5K pace, and the different zones you'll be going through.

Why is Total Time in the workout preview shorter than my workout time?

Total Time in the workout preview screen refers to your total active time. Active time is considered any time not in zone one. Throughout your eight-week Matrix Method program, we do not calculate your warmup or cooldown in our algorithm.

How do I know when my next workout will be available?

On the Journey screen, you’ll notice a countdown timer at the bottom of the screen that says, Next Available Workout In.... and then how long you have until your workout is available. This timing is provided to give you the recommended rest time between workouts. However, you can jump ahead to the next workout sooner by simply pressing on the next workout and selecting Skip. Selecting this will skip ahead past the rest period, allowing you to begin immediately.

How can I jump forward to a future workout?

If you need to skip ahead to a future workout, locate the workout you want to jump to and click on it. You should see an option labeled Skip. Selecting this will skip all workouts from your current session to the chosen future workout, allowing you to begin immediately.

What happens if I miss a workout?

Don't worry if you miss a workout. Our algorithm won't penalize your progress for missing a day. You can either continue with the missed workout when you come back or redo the workout for that day.

How can I see my progress?

On the Matrix Method Journey screen, you'll see a small bar graph icon located in the lower right-hand corner. By clicking on this icon, you'll be taken to the Program Summary screen, where you can view an overview of various important metrics.

What is a Rest or Cross day?

A rest day is designated for you to refrain from exercising, allowing your body the necessary time to recover. A cross day refers to cross-training, which encourages you to engage in different forms of exercise rather than running. Examples of cross-training include cycling, strength training, yoga, meditation, or any light activity.

In the Matrix Method app, you have the option to perform an alternative workout on both cross-training and rest days. When you select either of these days, you'll be presented with a Virtual Active workout. If you opt to participate, you will be redirected to a 15-minute Virtual Active session. We recommend setting your pace for a brisk walk.

Can I use other applications while running a Matrix Method workout?

Yes! You can use any app on your touchscreen console while doing a Matrix Method workout. We have designed the interface to continue providing important information during your workout, even if you're not in the Matrix Method app. However, please note that coaching tips will not be displayed if you exit the Matrix Method app. Additionally, when using full-screen mode on apps like Netflix and YouTube, you will get a prompt alerting you to a zone change 10 seconds before it happens.
