Troubleshooting
Find solutions to some of the most common issues with your equipment.
Issue: The functional trainer weight stack cables are twisted.
- Check the cable path to make sure each cable is routed correctly (refer to step 5 in the Assembly Guide at www.matrixmanuals.com). When a cable keeper is present, make sure the cable is routed between the pulley and the cable keeper.
- If the issue remains, follow the steps below to untwist the wires inside the affected cable. (Note: Please contact customer technical support if you have any questions about this procedure.)
1. Remove the weight stack covers so you can inspect the cables.
2. Identify the cable that is twisting, then set the corresponding pulley carriage (left or right) to hole 25 at the top of the support frame.
3. Insert the weight plate selector pin into the top weight plate.
4. With the handle attached to the cable, pull the cable out to the limit.
5. While facing the front of the functional trainer/weight stack, grip the cable stopper and carabiner with one hand and the cable with the other. Rotate the cable in the opposite direction of the twist. Note: Turning the cable too far can cause it to twist in the other direction.
6. Return the cable to the starting position.
7. Repeat steps 4–6 until the cable is no longer twisted.
8. Do a few reps with weight to ensure the twist does not return.
Issue: The functional trainer weight stack cables are loose or have slack.
- Some adjustable pulley cable slack is normal and is expected after proper assembly. However, if a cable is very loose, follow the steps below to correct the issue:
1. Lubricate the guide rods.
2. Check the cable path and make sure the cable is routed correctly (refer to step 5 in the Assembly Guide at matrixmanuals.com). When a cable keeper is present, make sure the cable is routed between the pulley and the cable keeper.
3. Check cable tension. Proper tension should leave ¾” (20mm) of clearance at the widest point of the pulley guard. (Refer to step 5 in the Assembly Guide).
Issue: A functional trainer pulley is frozen/does not move.
- Check for a silver bushing on the side of each pulley. If a bushing is missing, contact customer technical support to order a replacement pulley.
